How to Replace an audi replacement key service key copy (www.demilked.com) G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor replacement car key audi Audi Key Cost Uk - Www.Google.Co.Ls - and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I'm not certain what to do, but i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid I may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They should be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.
Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easy to find particularly if you're looking at a Bosch sensor, which is what we have. You can also choose the GM version of this unit is also a good option.
5. Tachometer
A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your car. It's a vital component of your audi spare keys's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. If this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.
The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is the same across the audi remote key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
