Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, commonly referred to as "upping," improves an item upgrades's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.

Players can recycle six items at one time to gain a gauge for each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases according to their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be achieved through a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or increasing the rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged to boost their stats.

You can purchase upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available in all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. They can also be made by players. The primary method to upgrade gear is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of upgrade items components that are inserted into items can't be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece of gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from an item you must salvage it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will destroy the item that it was installed in, but you can recover the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
